Los Angeles Faces Historic High Temperatures Just Days After Severe Winter Weather.
Following a week of significant rainfall that caused flooding across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting unseasonably warm conditions for late February.
All-Time High Temperatures
On Friday midday, the thermometer climbed to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city center, according to meteorologists. This easily surpasses the prior high for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was recorded in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on NWS maps for the region.
Public Health Alerts
The weather service cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations included:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Never leaving anyone unattended in a car.
An Extreme Reversal
This sudden spike in mercury arrives just after a powerful winter storm that struck the area recently. That storm unleashed high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, leading to evacuation orders for many residents.
Unfortunately, the conditions also resulted in a deadly avalanche in the Tahoe area, which claimed the lives of.
Temperatures Easing
Looking ahead cooler conditions will arrive. The heat were predicted to decrease to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by Friday night.
Other locales that experienced ninety degrees were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Additionally, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were forecast to experience the upper eighties.
For the weekend, central LA can expect temperatures in the eighties, with a further cooldown expected for the following week.
