Former Doctor Charged with Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a former physician has been charged with performing assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

The Grave Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges follow what police described as a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents outline the forty-five charges comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
